The Chicago Wolves have signed left wing REID SIMPSON to a Standard Player Contract (SPC). In addition, the club has reassigned left wing PATRICK GALIVAN to the ECHL's Gwinnett Gladiators.
SIMPSON, a veteran of 301 National Hockey League games, has recorded two assists and 30 penalty minutes in 12 games with the Wolves since being signed to a Professional Tryout Contract on Feb. 2.
The 40-year-old forward collected 18 goals, 18 assists, 36 points and 838 penalty minutes over parts of 12 NHL seasons with the Philadelphia Flyers, Minnesota North Stars, New Jersey Devils, Chicago Blackhawks, Tampa Bay Lightning, St. Louis Blues, Montreal Canadiens, Nashville Predators and Pittsburgh Penguins.
The Flin Flon, Manitoba, native also amassed 63 goals, 137 points and 1,178 penalty minutes in 328 career AHL contests with the Hershey Bears, Albany River Rats, Milwaukee Admirals and Wilkes/Barre-Scranton Penguins, prior to joining Chicago.
Most recently, SIMPSON spent two seasons (2005-07) with Chekhov Vityaz of the Russian Super League, where he posted 13 points (3G, 10A) and 506 penalty minutes in 77 games.
In accordance with team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.
GALIVAN has registered five points (2G, 3A) in 16 contests with the Wolves, spanning two recalls. The Oak Park native has also tallied 35 points (19G, 16A) in 38 games with Gwinnett this season.
Last year, the 23-year-old forward completed a four-year career at Western Michigan University (CCHA), leading the team with a career high 19 goals, 28 assists and 47 points in 41 outings.
Overall, GALIVAN registered 35 goals, 60 assists, 95 points and 112 penalty minutes in 122 career games with Western Michigan, spanning four seasons (2005 to 2009).
