Michael Floyd, Really?

When will they grow up and learn? Being in the spotlight at Notre Dame even the littlest infraction will come under scrutiny for any player and/or coach of the Irish. Remember a few years back when then quarterback Jimmy Clausen was under the microscope for being photographed at a party with a beer on the table in the background? Nothing became of that incident but one of a higher magnitude has surfaced. Top offensive threat for the Irish, receiver Michael Floyd was cited for underage consumption of alcohol after a January 8th altercation in Floyd's hometown of

Minneapolis.

Floyd, 20, is one of five persons listed on a police report stemming from a "physical dispute in the street" involving 6-10 people. Floyd admitted to police that he had "a couple of shots" earlier in the evening and had blood on his hands, feet and shirt while telling police he had been involved in a "physical altercation" at a house party.

Notre Dame had no comment specifically about Floyd's situation, though its believed new Irish coach Brian Kelly was aware of the incident. For one, Floyd's leadership on the team will be questioned with his irresponsible decision to drink at a house party on the campus of the University of Minnesota. Second, will Notre Dame brass stand for this black eye that will be dissected time and time again by various media outlets? Former coach Charlie Weis suspended running back Rashon Powers-McNeil a few years ago for the same matter.

What does the future hold for Floyd? Will he be suspended or will he be dismissed from the team?

UPDATE:

Also in Notre Dame news, wide receiver Kyle Prater is finally committing to USC rather than Notre Dame and Illinois now that Lane Kiffin has been named the new coach of the Trojans. Prater is moving to Cali to prove that he is serious this time about his decision after backing off twice in recent weeks. Kiffin was recruiting Prater for Tennessee before agreeing to become Carroll's replacement on Tuesday. Ranked the top receiver in the country and the No. 2 prospect overall by Rivals, the 6-foot-5 Prater originally committed to USC in September at a news conference at Proviso West high school. It is common for recruits to change their minds after making oral commitments, which are not binding and do not become official until national signing day on Feb. 3.
